Klahoose Eagle Photography Workshop
with Matt Shannon

A Klahoose Indigenous Cultural Experience

Klahoose Territory, British Columbia Canada

Klahoose Eagle Photography Workshop with Matt Shannon:

June 12-15, 2025

July 10-13, 2025

Join professional wildlife photographer Matt Shannon on an unforgettable three-day adventure into the Klahoose territory, where you'll have the opportunity to capture stunning photographs of Eagles or qaykʷ, in the Éy7á7juuthem language, when massive tides cause a feeding frenzy for Bald Eagles.

On select days each year, for just a few hours, the tide rushes with extraordinary speed, sweeping migrating fish like Hake up from the depths so swiftly that survival becomes impossible. This phenomenon creates an irresistible feast, drawing in Bald Eagles by the hundreds. Yet, they're not alone in this feeding frenzy. A plethora of migratory and resident birds also seize the opportunity, resulting in a spectacle of nature's voracious appetite.

In addition, you'll have the opportunity to capture captivating landscape of both Desolation Sound and the Discovery Islands. We may also see humpback whales, Orca, dolphins, porpoises, seals sea lions, black bears and the bald eagles, providing additional subjects for your photography. This is an all-encompassing experience for nature enthusiasts and passionate photographers.

At night, you will have the pleasure of staying at Klahoose Wilderness Resort, where you can indulge in fine food and drink while relishing in the natural beauty surrounding you along with Indigenous cultural activities such as cedar weaving, songs and storytelling throughout the stay.

EAGLE PHOTOGRAPHY

Breakfast and coffee at the resort

These two days are dedicated to Bald eagle photography. We will leave in the morning on a covered boat for the Discovery Islands and time our visit with the tides so their peak flows. We spend as much time as possible with the Eagles, before heading out to search for other marine-life.  We coordinate to ensure you have the best photography experience possible! Matt will be shooting alongside you and helping you get in the best possible position.

From the boat we will photograph the eagles along with other marine life we encounter such as Orcas, humpback whales and dolphins. There will be a variety of Landscape photography opportunities such as waterfalls and islands in the morning fog.

Back at the resort, you'll be able to relax and enjoy the lodge amenities and Indigenous cultural activities are planned.

Photography technique review and reflection. We will learn from each day, discuss our goals for the next day, review and improve our skills.
