2025: A Unique Wildlife Experience with Aliya Jasmine

Immerse yourself in nature with the Canadian Geographic Adventures Discover Klahoose package—a 4-night journey into the heart of Desolation Sound, guided by renowned wildlife photographer and environmental journalist Aliya Jasmine.

Our carefully curated enrichment program brings you exclusive insights from Aliya Jasmine, an award-winning RCGS Ambassador, photographer, TV host, and environmental journalist.

Aliya Jasmine reflects:
"You need to be in the know—whispers passed down through generations to the stewards of this land. Our guides, all Indigenous to Desolation Sound, carry an ancestral wisdom that keeps us feeling completely safe, even in the presence of majestic predators like bears and wolves."

Prepare for a transformative adventure, where breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and expert storytelling come together to reveal the magic of Klahoose Wilderness Resort.

Klahoose Wilderness Resort
"Since time immemorial the Klahoose (toq qaymɩx) people believe that the spirits of their ancestors, as well as the animals, water, and all plant life here are interconnected and cannot live independently from one another."

Aliya Jasmine, RCGS Ambassador

Discover Klahoose: Transformational Immersion

Highlights of the Journey:

  • Cultural Immersion: Engage with Klahoose Cultural Interpreters and learn about local traditions and explore the rich heritage of the Klahoose territory.

  • Wildlife viewing for Humpback whales as they are returning to our waters after the spring migration, and both black bears and grizzly bears as they feed along the shoreline. Spring is also excellent for viewing migrating birds and all kinds of coastal bc wildlife encounters as we travel the calm ocean by boat.

  • Cedar-Brushing Off Ceremony: Conclude your journey with a heartfelt ceremony, leaving you with a deep sense of connection, clarity, and purpose.

Day By Day Itinerary

Discover Klahoose: Transformational Immersion with Bears and Waterfalls

DAY 1  / May 18

ARRIVE AT KLAHOOSE WILDERNESS LODGE VIA FLOAT PLANE OR WATER TAXI

After days of travel it's best to come to your ocean side accommodations and relax!

The ancient voices echoed in a traditional Klahoose greeting welcomes newly arriving guests. The unparalleled visit is about to begin. Spend the evening as your senses suddenly awaken to the forest, wildlife and calm waters. Dinner this evening at the Resort. Indigenous cultural sharing tonight and sharing stories with Canadian Geographic Travel Ambassador Aliya Jasmine.

DAY 2 / May 19

TOBA INLET

Today you will explore Yekwamen (yɛkʷamɛn) or Toba Inlet with your Klahoose guide. The inlet has been the home of the Klahoose people since time before memory. This is one of the principle inlets on the BC coast. Toba Inlet is relatively short in comparison to other major coastal inlets with an average width of 2.5 km and length about 35 km.  The inlet is flanked by tower glacier peaks, part of the Coast Mountain Range, with several major cascading waterfalls.  We are watching for wildlife including Grizzly Bears, Black Bears, Humpback Whales, Orca, Dolphins, Eagles and seabirds.

DAY 3 / May 20

Aap'ukw'um

Today we visit the traditional Klahoose village site of Aap'ukw'um at Forbes Bay.  Aap'ukw'um lies just south of the resort on the east shore of Homfray Channel. This peaceful forested bay has a large stream fed by alpine lakes. Here we will listen to stories passed down by elders. Learn about spiritual bathing and participate in a traditional bathing in the creek.

DAY 4 / May 21

EXPRIENCINE KLAHOOS WILERNESS RESORT

Today is all about immersing yourself in the resort's natural surroundings. Choose from a variety of activities such as kayaking, paddle boarding, ocean swimming, and nature walks, or unwind in our wood-fired sauna. For those interested in sustainability, a visit to our micro-hydro system that powers the resort offers an inspiring look at green energy in action. You can also simply relax on the dock, soaking in the tranquil beauty of the wilderness around you.

On your final day, we conclude with a traditional cedar brushing-off ceremony, a heartfelt and meaningful way to reflect on your experience, followed by a memorable evening at the resort.

Departure Day / May 22

Final morning send off with breakfast.

On our last half day we'll have a group breakfast and coffee, then pack up our rooms. Cultural farewell ceremony before you begin our journeys home.

You'll have your float planes or water taxi service ready to take you back in the morning after your immersive experience in nature, culture and adventure.
