Day By Day Itinerary
Discover Klahoose: Transformational Immersion with Bears and Waterfalls
ARRIVAL DAY / June 1
ARRIVE AT KLAHOOSE WILDERNESS LODGE VIA FLOAT PLANE OR WATER TAXI
After days of travel it's best to come to your ocean side accommodations and relax!
The ancient voices echoed in a traditional Klahoose greeting, with drum and song, welcomes newly arriving guests. The unparalleled visit is about to begin. Spend the evening as your senses suddenly awaken to the forest, wildlife and calm waters. Dinner this evening at the Resort.
DAY 2 / June 2
TOBA INLET
Today you will explore Yekwamen (yɛkʷamɛn) or Toba Inlet with your Klahoose guide. The inlet has been the home of the Klahoose people since time before memory. This is one of the principle inlets on the BC coast. Toba Inlet is relatively short in comparison to other major coastal inlets with an average width 2.5 km and length of about 35 km. The inlet is flanked by tower glacier peaks with several major cascading waterfalls. We are watching for wildlife including Grizzly Bears, Black Bears, Humpback Whales, Orca, Dolphins, Eagles and seabirds.
DAY 3 / June 3
Aap'ukw'um
Today we visit the traditional Klahoose village site of Aap'ukw'um at Forbes Bay. Aap'ukw'um lies just south of the resort on the east shore of Homfray Channel. This peaceful forested bay has a large stream fed by alpine lakes. Here we will listen to stories passed down by elders. Learn about spiritual bathing and participate in a traditional bathing in the creek.
DAY 4 / June 4
DAY EXPERINCING KLAHOOSE WILDERNESS RESORT
Today is all about immersing yourself in the resort's natural surroundings. Choose from a variety of activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, ocean swimming, and nature walks, or unwind in our wood-fired sauna. For those interested in sustainability, a visit to our micro-hydro system that powers the resort offers an inspiring look at green energy in action. You can also simply relax on the dock, soaking in the tranquil beauty of the wilderness around you.
On your final day, we conclude with a traditional cedar brushing-off ceremony, a heartfelt and meaningful way to reflect on your experience, followed by a memorable evening at the resort.
Departure Day / June 5
Final morning send off with breakfast. On our last half day we'll have a group breakfast and coffee, then pack up our rooms and begin our journeys home.
You'll have your float planes or water taxi service ready to take you back in the morning after your immersive experience in nature, culture and adventure.

Charlene and Wilson Bearhead, RCGS Ambassadors
Charlene Bearhead is a mother, grandmother, educator, Indigenous education advocate and author with over 30 years of regional, national and international experience. Charlene is the Vice President — Learning and Reconciliation at Canadian Geographic, and a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Previously, Charlene served as education days coordinator for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, education coordinator for the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, education advisor for the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada, a member of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights Indigenous Education working group, and the first education lead for both the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the University of Manitoba and the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre at the University of British Columbia. Charlene is the co-author of the children’s book series Siha Tooskin Knows.
Wilson Bearhead is Nakota, a member of the Wabamun Lake First Nation in Treaty 6 territory and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. He is the co-author of the children’s book series, Siha Tooskin Knows and the recent recipient of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation Indigenous Elder Award. Wilson has served as Chief in his own community, Grand Chief of the Confederacy of Treaty 6 as well as the Assembly of First Nations Alberta Regional Chief. Wilson was the first Elder in Residence for Edmonton Public Libraries before moving to serve as the Elder for Elk Island Public Schools for 4 years. Mr. Bearhead has served his people for many years in ceremony, is a singer and still loves to dance pow wow in the men’s traditional category. Wilson’s grandmother Annie was a powerful, positive influence in his young life, teaching him all of the lessons that gave him the strength, knowledge, and skills to overcome difficult times and embrace the gifts of life.
